The City Is the Puzzle

Zailia's flooded machine metropolis runs on three interlocking rules. Learn them, and the waters become a toolkit instead of a tomb.

01

Chrono Lock

Freeze local time around any submerged mechanism, catching waves mid-collapse and pistons mid-stroke. You can stand on a halted flood, reroute a turbine, and turn a would-be drowning into a bridge.

02

Salvaged Memory

Every dead machine remembers its last working sequence. Reconstruct those final seconds to re-align gears, restore pressure, and bring a single chamber of the city back to life.

03

Pressure Routes

Draw new paths through the city's flooded arteries by shifting valves and gates. Water becomes a moving hand—carrying platforms, unlocking bulkheads, and exposing routes hidden beneath the surface.

Prologue

The Last Signal from Zailia

Zailia was once the beating heart of an ancient machine empire, but a catastrophic flood silenced its engines and swallowed its secrets. Long after the waters receded, a faint signal was detected from its deepest core. You are the Surveyor. Your mission is to descend into this impossible city, navigate its gravity-inverted canals, and restore the temporal momentum of its colossal engines. The world is a sprawling network of domed arcologies and bridge-spires, now an underwater crypt of rust and coral. Rebuild the broken machines to piece together the final, desperate message of a world that refused to die.

FAQ

Zailia — Common Questions

Short answers about diving into the flooded machine city.

What exactly is Zailia?

Zailia is a puzzle adventure set in a flooded machine city. You play as a courier-diver, navigating submerged districts and reactivating ancient turbines to open new routes through the ruins.

Which platforms can I play Zailia on?

The game launches on PC (Steam) and current-gen consoles, with a Nintendo Switch version in development. A free demo is planned for the next Steam Next Fest.

Do I need to be good at puzzles to finish the game?

No. Zailia offers three difficulty modes: Calm Waters focuses on exploration, Balancing Act adds moderate energy-routing puzzles, and Pressure Grip is for completionists who want every ancient mechanism fully restored.

How long does one playthrough take?

A typical playthrough takes 8 to 12 hours, depending on how many flooded side chambers you explore. Fully restoring every machine district can push that to around 15 hours.

Is there a map or fast travel?

Yes, once you restore the central compass hub, you unlock fast travel between key districts. You'll still need to solve environmental puzzles to reach many optional areas.

Does Zailia have replay value?

Absolutely. Beyond the main path, there are hidden courier caches, alternate routes that require mastery of energy routing, and a New Game Plus mode that changes the placement of several locks.
